What is in the Garden?

“Genesis 2:9 And out of the ground made the LORD God to grow every tree that is pleasant to the sight, and good for food; the tree of life also in the midst of the garden, and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.”

Okay, so now THE LORD instructs Adam this way:

“Genesis 2:16 And the LORD God commanded the man, saying: ‘Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat;
17 but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it; for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.’”

So if you read carefully both what Eve has said and what THE LORD has said you will notice it is similarly, but not exactly the same. A interpretation of what Adam has told her, and then how she understands it? But not bad.

In this we learn that Eve knows is forbidden and the general consequence for doing it.

“Genesis 3:6 And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was a delight to the eyes, and that the tree was to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat; and she gave also unto her husband with her, and he did eat.”

Here the word translated as wise is: להשכיל
Current word usage is “ to be educated”, which we can differ on the word usage, but wise does seem to fit the situation.

So what is true? She LOST her innocence in that she now knows or has the knowledge of right and wrong. She stopped being Childlike, (innocent) and became responsible by “Doing what she knew was wrong” for her sin(choosing against GOD).

להשכיל

Meaning that the snake is correct –you will be like GOD, knowing right from wrong. This doesn’t mean either were without knowledge, only that they had not sinned yet and had not learned that terrible information about doing what is wrong.

To this day, we seem to be unable to understand this event. The importance on this knowledge begins to tear away the human lies about sin and its mystery. Now we are faced with a terrible consequence, that of knowing that “I am guilty”, without being able to blame anyone else.

It is also a great time to remember that NO ONE ELSE CAN DAMAGE YOUR SOUL AND ONLY GOD CAN CLEANSE IT.

A simpler explanation about Original Sin, is one I have been using for several years now.
When you were young, only four or five years of age. You knew that you like cookies, and that after Mom bakes them. She put the cookies in a jar on the kitchen counter. You ask Mom and even try to negotiate with her to get a cookie. She tell you that you must wait for dinner. “You can have one after you eat”, she says.

Disappointed you leave, but come back later to try again to get a cookie. But, Mom is not here this time, but the jar is on the counter. You have decide that you really want a cookie now and Mom won’t notice if you take just one cookie. You climb up and take the cookie and eat it. When you took your first bite, you went from not knowing sin, to knowing right from wrong. Your Original Sin, is the moment you choose to do what you knew was wrong. (In this case Theft or more to the point: Exodus 20:12. . . . Thou shalt not steal. . . . .)

It is that simple!

We are not punished for another’s sin, nor is anyone else punished for your sin. Keep in mind that because this true none but GOD can take away sin from another. The other part of your action is that it affects you, other people and the world. These consequences are not removed by your saying I am sorry or being forgiven By THE LORD GOD for what you have done. For example: Can anyone go back into the Garden? Answer: NO, It is closed and guarded against entry, even if you could find it.Therefore the consequences of the actions of Eve and Adam continue in the world today.

Secret: What happened was going to happen, or there is no way for this to happen: “

Genesis 1:28 And God blessed them; and God said unto them: ‘Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it; and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that creepeth upon the earth.’”

We are each accountable for what we do and the results of what we leave in our passing.

You might like this one as a follow-up: The Soul!

As always, I encourage you to read the text for yourself.
