Original Sin, revisited

What can this be? Can there be an original sin, given to every person?
[Original text posted 2009 by James Jeffries]

I have heard this to be declared to be: Sex, Lust, Lying, Choosing against GOD. . . .

I am in favor of the last one as the original sin committed in the Garden of Eden by Adam and Eve.

However, Your’s and Mine are different “Original Sins.”

That is going to cause a lot of head shaking by those trained in religions. The News is that IT IS TRUE.
Your sins are your sins. You are not responsible for the sins of anyone else., just yours. I will prove that
later.

So here is what I find to be the Original Sin and what it means.

The “Original Sin” is just that, the first (original) sin. It is not Your sin! It is not Inherited from anyone else!

A Proof Text

Exodus 32 Synopsis (Moses had gone up to get the LAW from the ALMIGHTY, and the Children of Israel created an Idol of Gold. When Moses returns he calls for those that follow the LORD to come to him and the remainder are put to the sword. )

{Exodus 32: 31 And Moses returned unto the LORD, and said: ‘Oh, this people have sinned a great sin, and have made them a god of gold.  32 Yet now, if Thou wilt forgive their sin–; and if not, blot me, I pray Thee, out of Thy book which Thou hast written.’ 33 And the LORD said unto Moses: ‘Whosoever hath sinned against Me, him will I blot out of My book.}

In this text we learn:

1)                The Children of Israel worshipped an idol, a great sin.

2)                Moses, favored by the ALMIGHTY did not accept Moses’s soul for even one sinner.

3)                In fact we are told only the sinner is punished.

4)                This is the only place I have found that mentions or refers to a Book of Life(verse 33), which has direct relations to the Genesis 3.

This is my gleaning from that text – only those that have sinned are blotted out of MY book(Marked For Death).

So what actually happened with the first sin?

Soul marked as dead. “Genesis 2:17 but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it; for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.” JPS1917 ver.

Eve informs the serpent; “Genesis 3:2 And the woman said unto the serpent: ‘Of the fruit of the trees of the garden we may eat; 3 but of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God hath said: Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die.’ 4 And the serpent said unto the woman: ‘Ye shall not surely die; 5 for God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as God, knowing good and evil.’”

I think we need some back ground information here. What is in the Garden?

“Genesis 2:9 And out of the ground made the LORD God to grow every tree that is pleasant to the sight, and good for food; the tree of life also in the midst of the garden, and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.”

Okay, so now THE LORD instructs Adam this way:

Genesis 2:16 And the LORD God commanded the man, saying: ‘Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat;
17 but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it; for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.’”

So if you read carefully both what Eve has said and what THE LORD has said you will notice it is similarly, but not exactly the same. A interpretation of what Adam has told her, and then how she understands it? But not bad.

In this we learn that Eve knows is forbidden and the general consequence for doing it.

“Genesis 3:6 And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was a delight to the eyes, and that the tree was to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat; and she gave also unto her husband with her, and he did eat.”

Here the word translated as wise is: להשכיל
Current word usage is “ to be educated”, which we can differ on the word usage, but wise does seem to fit the situation.

So what is true? She LOST her innocence in that she now knows or has the knowledge of right and wrong. She stopped being Childlike, (innocent) and became responsible by “Doing what she knew was wrong” for her sin(choosing against GOD).

להשכיל

Meaning that the snake is correct –you will be like GOD, knowing right from wrong. This doesn’t mean either were without knowledge, only that they had not sinned yet and had not learned that terrible information about doing what is wrong.

To this day, we seem to be unable to understand this event. The importance on this knowledge begins to tear away the human lies about sin and its mystery. Now we are faced with a terrible consequence, that of knowing that “I am guilty”, without being able to blame anyone else.

It is also a great time to remember that NO ONE ELSE CAN DAMAGE YOUR SOUL AND ONLY GOD CAN CLEANSE IT.

A simpler explanation about Original Sin, is one I have been using for several years now.
When you were young, only four or five years of age. You knew that you like cookies, and that after Mom bakes them. She put the cookies in a jar on the kitchen counter. You ask Mom and even try to negotiate with her to get a cookie. She tell you that you must wait for dinner. “You can have one after you eat”, she says.

Disappointed you leave, but come back later to try again to get a cookie. But, Mom is not here this time, but the jar is on the counter. You have decide that you really want a cookie now and Mom won’t notice if you take just one cookie. You climb up and take the cookie and eat it.  When you took your first bite, you went from not knowing sin, to knowing right from wrong. Your Original Sin, is the moment you choose to do what you knew was wrong. (In this case Theft or more to the point: Exodus 20:12. . . . Thou shalt not steal. . . . .)

It is that simple!

We are not punished for another’s sin, nor is anyone else punished for your sin. Keep in mind that because this true none but GOD can take away sin from another. The other part of your action is that it affects you, other people and the world. These consequences are not removed by your saying I am sorry or being forgiven By THE LORD GOD for what you have done. For example: Can anyone go back into the Garden? Answer: NO, It is closed and guarded against entry, even if you could find it.Therefore the consequences of the actions of Eve and Adam continue in the world today.

Secret: What happened was going to happen, or there is no way for this to happen: “

Genesis 1:28 And God blessed them; and God said unto them: ‘Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it; and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that creepeth upon the earth.’”

We are each accountable for what we do and the results of what we leave in our passing.

As always, I encourage you to read the text for yourself. An online resource with a respectable translation of the Original Hebrew is:

I will continue to work on this, and look forward to any discussion regarding the Bible, Tanakh, Torah( Five Books of Moses) as these are foundational text in my view.

Please remember, our task in the life given us is to choose GOD and keep HIS COMMANDS, this is Righteousness a Plus +, and a Zero 0 is forgiven, with a Minus – Sinner. The only good outcome is a +, nothing less will work.

IT is to our benefit to HEARKEN until the LIVING GOD OF ISRAEL, and to our pain and shame to do otherwise.

My prayer is that The LORD grant you eyes that see, ears that hear and an understanding heart, then you may return unto HIM soon!(Isaiah 6: 9 And He said: ‘Go, and tell this people: hear ye indeed, but understand not; and see ye indeed, but perceive not. 10 Make the heart of this people fat, and make their ears heavy, and shut their eyes; lest they, seeing with their eyes, and hearing with their ears, and understanding with their heart, return, and be healed.’)

Don’t have a Tanakh or Written Torah(First Five Books, Genesis; Exodus; Leviticus, Numbers, Deuteronomy) try this one. Hebrew/English Tanakh
