In advertising you sell an image or an idea, usually around, Sex, Safety, Money, Desirability or Fear. The most common method is to use a model; female or male which your audience could either desire to have or be. In this we are sold an outside image of a person. That process is also used all of the time to sell yourself, either to yourself or to others. Yes you are selling to you.
Let us look around the world for a moment. Just look at the people, one person at a time. In their appearance what do you see? Can you tell their mood? How are they dressed? Do they appear to care what others think? If they do, can you tell what they are selling? Usually these are body parts, or an overall image of class, pride, be afraid, legs, chest, expensive, cheap, street, hatred, available, sexy, easy, uptight, taken, don’t care what you think, . . . .
While we have many failings these days, due to the lack of moral which was not taught to us by family, school, entertainment, of places of worship. While these have been the teachers, each of us is responsible for our actions. I bring this up at this time to point out that I have some of the cause of what I am building up to, but that these are not a excuse in any case and not needed now.
If what is on the OUTSIDE can not be trusted due to the selling factor, then what can be trusted. How about actions? Is this not also a set of tools that are used to sell what probably is not real?
I see that there is no way of knowing who you can trust. Even if at the time of getting married, the couple have been friends and have known each other for a couple of years, this does not mean the marriage will last even one year. Even when it seems that there is a commitment of a lifetime, it is only 5 minutes to file for divorce in a couple dollars in most states in America. It seems that divorce is becoming common around the world these days.
So what does the Tanakh(Old Testament) give us for advice.
As man, I am commanded certain LAWS and teachings, which do not seem to have any ties for women. If you are a women and offended, you can take on these laws if you want. But men are commanded certain behaviors. Examples of these Laws are found in:
Leviticus 18( Who we are not allowed to have carnal knowledge of, or things which are abhorrent to The LORD, some with sever penalties.) and Leviticus 19(extends the LAWS in 18, and also deals with other sex laws and behaviours).
Actually the Covenants are almost completely about how a man is to behave. I say almost completely, for there are some items about a woman’s behaviour, such as:
Exodus 22:17 Thou shalt not suffer a sorceress to live.
Exodus 22:18 Whosoever lieth with a beast shall surely be put to death.Deuteronomy 25:11 When men strive together one with another, and the wife of the one draweth near to deliver her husband out of the hand of him that smiteth him, and putteth forth her hand, and taketh him by the secrets; 12 then thou shalt cut off her hand, thine eye shall have no pity.(Seems harsh, except that it could be taken as an act of adultery being the same act not in a fight – it is her life which is taken not the hand. Maybe it is not that harsh, just don’t do that thing.)
Jeremiah 17:5 Thus saith the LORD: Cursed is the man that trusteth in man, and maketh flesh his arm, and whose heart departeth from the LORD.
Okay, I am seeing a really strong pattern here.
First let me say, If you are a woman and desire to act like a man and take on the Laws which regulate our behavior, reward and punishment, that is your issue, –good luck.
Second, It seems that we(men) should strive to be righteous, that should make us great, trust worthy, respectable and desirable to as mates and head of house hold.
Except today, it is generally desired to be like a man, with the responsibility for only what makes you look better and for selling yourself.
Well there you have it, the result of such society must be: no family, no responsibility, no truth, no world.
Well the last one, will be soon enough and then it will be put right by the CREATOR, with a new Heavens and a new Earth.
In the mean time, I will continue work at being righteous, kind, lovable and respectable as an example to those have not heard before. –A light unto the world in a small way.
